Pupil Premium Strategy

What is the Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Department for Education to schools in England. It is designed to improve the educational outcomes of pupils who may face barriers to learning, helping to ensure that every child has the opportunity to achieve their very best.

Who is eligible to receive pupil premium funding?

Bowsland Green receive Pupil Premium funding for pupils who:

  • Are currently eligible for free school meals.
  • Have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years.
  • Are looked-after or previously looked-after children.
  • Have parents serving in the armed forces.

At Bowsland Green Primary School, we believe that Physical Education (PE) and sport are vital components of a well-rounded education. Our vision of “Brilliance through Bowsland Best” is reflected in the way we promote physical activity as a foundation for pride, achievement, responsibility, and teamwork. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to access opportunities to develop key skills in a range of physical activities to help foster a lifelong habit of healthy living, enabling them to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Our PE curriculum is thoughtfully designed to provide a broad and ambitious range of activities that develop fundamental movement skills, strategic thinking, and an understanding of healthy participation. Every child takes part in a minimum of two hours of PE each week. We ensure that every child experiences a variety of sports and physical activities, from athletics to dance, helping them build confidence and competence. This approach supports our commitment to meeting the national curriculum aims and prepares children to make informed decisions about their own health and wellbeing.

Beyond the classroom, we strive to offer extra-curricular opportunities that extends learning and encourages all children to participate regularly in physical activity. We actively remove barriers to participation and provide inclusive clubs and lunchtime activities led by staff and pupil sport leaders.

We celebrate all forms of participation and progress in PE and sport, recognising that success is not just about competition but about engagement and improvement. We aim to provide children with opportunities to compete in both inter and intra school competitions, whilst working alongside other primary and secondary schools. Through PE and sport, children at Bowsland Green develop the skills and attitudes that support their academic success and personal growth.
