Welcome to Chestnut Class
Welcome to Chestnut Class, where the children begin their exciting journey through Key Stage One.
Year 1 is an important year of growing independence, developing confidence and building strong foundations for future learning. Our classroom is a happy and purposeful place where children are encouraged to ask questions, share their ideas and enjoy new challenges.
Throughout the year, the children continue to develop their reading, writing and mathematical skills. They enjoy daily phonics, explore a range of stories and begin to express their ideas with increasing confidence. Alongside this, they take part in practical and creative learning across science, history, geography, art, computing and the wider curriculum.
We recognise that the move from Reception into Year 1 is a significant step. Carefully planned opportunities for exploration, discussion and practical learning help the children make this transition successfully while gradually becoming more confident and independent learners.
Our school vision, Empowering Excellence; Daring to Dream, is at the heart of life in Chestnut Class. We encourage every child to:
- Be brave when trying something new or tackling a challenge
- Be proud of their effort, progress and achievements
- Be kind through their words, choices and actions
- Be part of a team by listening, helping and learning together

We value the partnership between home and school. Regular reading, practising phonics and talking about learning at home all make a real difference. Families can keep up to date with classroom news, reminders and celebrations through Class Dojo.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning, friendship and achievement in Chestnut Class.
