Year 2

Welcome to Holly Class

Year 2 is an exciting year in which children build upon the strong foundations developed in Year 1 and become increasingly confident, independent learners. Our classroom is a positive and supportive place where children are encouraged to ask questions, share their ideas and take pride in their progress.

Throughout the year, the children develop their reading, writing and mathematical skills through purposeful and engaging learning. They explore a wide range of books, build their confidence and fluency as readers, and learn to communicate their ideas clearly through writing. In maths, children strengthen their understanding of number while developing their fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Our wider curriculum gives children opportunities to investigate, create and discover. Through science, history, geography, art, computing and other subjects, the children learn more about the world around them and make meaningful connections between different areas of learning.

Families can support learning at home by reading regularly with their child, discussing books and practising the number facts or spellings shared by the class team.
