Year 3

Welcome to Willow Class

Year 3 marks the beginning of the children’s journey through Key Stage Two. It is an exciting year in which children build greater independence, take on new responsibilities and develop confidence in approaching more challenging learning.

Our classroom is a positive and supportive place where children are encouraged to be curious, ask thoughtful questions and share their ideas. We want every child to feel confident enough to have a go, make mistakes and recognise that improvement comes through practice and perseverance.

Throughout the year, children develop their reading fluency and comprehension, explore a wide range of books and learn to express their ideas through increasingly detailed writing. In maths, they strengthen their understanding of number, develop efficient calculation strategies and apply their knowledge to reasoning and problem-solving activities.

The wider curriculum offers plenty of opportunities to investigate, discuss, create and discover. Through science, history, geography, art, computing and other subjects, children learn more about the world around them and begin to make deeper connections between different areas of learning.

Families can support learning by reading regularly with their child, talking about books and practising multiplication facts, spellings or other learning shared by the class team.
