Year 6

Welcome to Elm Class

Year 6 is a special and memorable final year at Bowsland Green. It is a year filled with challenge, responsibility and exciting opportunities as the children prepare for the next stage of their education.

Our classroom is an ambitious and supportive place where children are encouraged to think deeply, work independently and approach challenges with confidence. We want every child to recognise how far they have come, believe in what they can achieve and finish their primary-school journey feeling proud and well prepared for the future.

Throughout the year, children refine their reading, writing and mathematical skills. They explore increasingly sophisticated texts, discuss ideas and draw carefully considered conclusions. In writing, they learn to select language and structure for different audiences and purposes. In maths, children deepen their understanding, improve their fluency and apply their knowledge to increasingly complex reasoning and problem-solving activities.

Our wider curriculum provides opportunities to investigate, debate, create and make connections. Through science, history, geography, computing, art and other subjects, children deepen their knowledge and learn to express their ideas with clarity and confidence.

Year 6 includes important challenges, including the Key Stage Two assessments, but it is about much more than test results. The children enjoy memorable experiences, leadership opportunities and their Year 6 residential. We support each child to approach these experiences positively and recognise that achievement looks different for everyone.

As the oldest pupils at Bowsland Green, the children are expected to be excellent role models. They take on responsibilities, contribute to the wider life of the school and demonstrate our values through their everyday choices.

Families can support learning by encouraging regular reading, discussing books and current topics, and helping children develop consistent routines for any learning shared by the class teacher.
